Going through the loop in Cades Cove in the rain and misty weather makes for an experience of its own with our self-guided UTV Tours, you will really get that ‘Smoky’ effect in the scenery. Cades Cove is an 11 mile loop in the valley of the Great Smoky Mountains National park, and where it sits so low in elevation compared to its mountainous surrounding’s, you’ll feel as if you’re in a smoke show with a breath of fresh air.
Cades Cove is also home to dirt and gravel roads able to be taken for a unique spin on your pavement adventures, while also offering a ‘less traveled’ scenic drive. Rich Mountain is one of its most scenic routes to take that will end in the quaint little town of Townsend. Despite the fact that it is easily accessible from Cades Cove, Rich Mountain Road feels far from the usual activity of the national park, and more like a secluded nature preserve. It’s one of the most unfrequented areas of the park that is open to public car traffic. The winding road passes by waterfalls, streams, and cliff sides as it travels up Rich Mountain and down the other side toward Townsend. Don’t forget to check out the outstanding view of the Primitive Valley church below as you come to the scenic overlook. This offer’s a signature view of Cades Cove and you wont want to miss out on the photo-worthy shot.
Waterfall chasing is also on the list, there are many drive by waterfalls if you don’t feel up to a rainy day hike, but non the less a spectacular sight to see. The rain that comes in makes these waterfalls flow ferociously making it the ideal time to capture breath taking shots.
Waterfalls you can catch without a hike are The Skins. The Sinks offer a view of a 15 foot water call which is the largest drive by one around. The Sinks is located not far outside of Gatlinburg off of Little River George Road. Place of A Thousand Drips is also drive by visit worthy. Located in Gatlinburg at traffic light #8 through The Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail, this scenic one way route will take you through a beautiful drive in the national park where you can also take short hikes to other waterfalls such as Grotto Falls or if you are up to a more challenging and longer hike, Rainbow Falls is a must!
